” Fowler High School recognizes that each student is an individual; that all students are creative; that all students need to succeed. Therefore, Fowler High School respects the individual needs of students; fosters a caring and creative environment; and emphasizes the social, emotional, physical, intellectual development of each student”. “Our vision is to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment where all students will recognize and achieve their fullest potential, with support from staff and community resources, so all are prepared for college/career and ultimately contributing their life purpose and skills to society”. Those pieces right there are the mission statement and vision of G.W Fowler High School in Syracuse, New York.
The school is located on the west side of the city on 227 Magnolia Street. There are 104 Employees at the school. Employees with all different types of jobs. There are school teachers, librarians, custodians, sentries, and so on. The teachers at the school want the best for their students so they do anything that they can do to help them succeed.  There aren’t as many students as the other 3 city high schools in Syracuse, which allows the teachers and students to work one on one.
For my volunteer service hours, I worked in the library at G.W Fowler High school. The Library at the school offers many things to the students and teachers. There are many useful things there. Things such as books, Laptops, Ipads , printers , copiers , and other useful things. The things that they provide to help us get our work done, help us study, help us plan, and so on. Other items that the library provides we would be in some trouble. The Library is open from 7:15am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. The Library provides students with the skills and resources to become independent critical readers, thinkers and information users in a safe, nurturing, student-centered environment. Information literacy skills are integrated with subject area curriculum through collaborative instruction and the promotion of literature appreciation.
The task that I performed were wiping keyboards, dusting bookshelves, and picking up around the library. I feel that my service made a difference to the library. I feel this because something that the librarians do is make sure that the library is safe and nurturing.  If the computers aren’t sanitized and the library is a mess nobody is going to want to go there, but if it is clean on the other hand people will.  I really enjoy helping out my community.
Everyone should help out their community sometime in their life. It really is a good thing, and it gives you a positive look. If you believe in Karma, you will receive the good Karma and not the bad. Doing community service will look good on job resumes and college applications. Doing something so small for your community or a person could be a big impact for them so just remember that.
